Went out with Don B on this Memorial Day weekend. 1) Drove up to Squamish. 2) Took the Mamquam FSR gravel road for just over 16 miles. At time the grade is steep, sometimes the rock loose. Rocky and potholy road. Not recommended for low clearance cars. Don't need AWD. Just high clearance. Took the road all the way to 49.6465, -122.9095 where you will find an abandoned road off to the right. 3) Started walking the abandoned road. The road has been cleared here and there of slide alder so the walking is easy. Bridge over Mamquam River is intact. Walked the road all the way to the end at 49.6293, -122.9133 4) There is a climbers path or a lakebaggers path at the end of the road and goes up rather steeply through the forest. About 500 feet of gain on this trail. 5) Somewhere around 4000 feet you loose the forest and then enter meadows, or snow, at this time of the year. 6) We then followed Orange markers on trees and on snow all the way to the pass at 49.6115, -122.8830 where we made camp for our two nights. 4 hours from car to camp. 7) We ascended Dunkeld Peak to the south and Dunkeld 1 to the north of this pass. Both easy. 8) Next morning. We went to Meslilloet. It was long. If you want to download somebody's route, here it is: https://www.peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=1965941. We followed this route. 8 hours one way for us. Some of the pictures may look like it was sun all day. We were in fog most of the day. It was supposed to be sunny per the forecast. 9) Final section. The summit nose has two short sections of slabby rock to get up on. Then you take a climbers left following trees. It eventually opens up. Go up and then traverse westward on top of the flatish area. The second section--make sure you continually going up and west to the South Ridge. This will be class 3. If you come to class 4, you are on the wrong route. Ascend up from the South Ridge for the final section. The top has a small exposed boulder problem at the very top. No views for us. 10) We came down and to avoid one of the small slabs, we did a short rappel. I don't like slabs. 11) And wouldn't you know it. This is a rarely visited peak. Guess what? Two people followed our snow tracks! They camped at a different place. Wow. People. We were amazed. 12) 7 hours back to camp. Made for a 15 hour day. Wasted. 13) 3 hours out to car. 14) I never got a good picture of Meslilloet from afar!!!

Art is an adventure.
