If you're interested in knowing more about the nature around you as you hike, try my book, Cascade-Olympic Natural History. Or if you're in the northern U.S. or Canadian Rockies, I have a newer natural history on that area. For info, check out raveneditions.com

Daniel, I have enjoyed reading and learning from both the original and the second editions of your very interesting book. I even bought copies for my two almost forty-year-old sons for Christmas presents. Now I will buy a copy of "Rocky Mountain Natural History" since I at least drive through Idaho and Wyoming when returning to visit my previous home in Boulder, Colorado. Thanks for all the hard work. Dale

I love that book. It's one of the best written books I've ever seen in that genre. The photos are excellent. I bought the 1st edition around the time I moved up here in 1991. The book really advanced my knowledge of our mountain natural history. I haven't picked up the 2nd edition yet. It's a real treat to have you on this board Dan. up.gif

Let me stand next to your fire

Yes one never knows if some of the posters on this site are whom they claim to be (re: Beckey and others who have supposedly graced us with their presence), but you sir seem legit so may I also say how much I've enjoyed my copy of Cascade-Olympic Natural History (alas 1994 edition) truly a classic and a wonderful read. I first became aware of it during a backpack along the Bogachiel, one of our party read excerpts to us at night around the stove. Thanks so much. Years ago I trudged up Desolation Peak too. What an experience you must have had with your time up there. My few hours just gave me a taste I'm afraid. Glad you posted, cheers!

Thanks for the nice comments, all of you. This forum is great! So far, I especially like the links to "North Cascades porn" and to Maury Pelto's glaicer research site. I'll have to figure out how to put a photo under my name.
