If you have out-of-town guest who want to climb a mountain this low-impact peak might be just the ticket. My daughter and I climbed this peak on Thursday. It starts at 4400' at the end of the Tonga Ridge road and caps out at 5501'. You walk on the Tonga Ridge trail probably 1 1/2-2 miles to an easy to see well-worn spur trail on the left which takes you to the top of Sawyer. It is about 500' past an open grassy area on the left. The road up is fine for any car. Much of the way in has tree cover to shelter from the sun. It is named after a fellow nwhiker who frequently posts here. Great views of Hinman, Daniel, Malachite, and Bald Eagle peaks. Plus all the ones to the north. I had hoped to climb a peak called Shroud (unofficial Homecourt name of Pt 6243) on the same outing but she is not a peakbagger like her father and was content with looking at flowers and such. Anyone interested in Shroud out there?
Good report. We were up there a week ago and my kids loved it. The blueberries were ripe and the tiger lilies were in bloom. We saw several parties with kids, all having a good time.
