If they close the road at Dingford, then I hope they'll build a bridge there across the Snoqualamie to the trail on the south side so we don't have to hike miles of roads. It'll make for a wonderful wilderness experience close to the city. However, I hope they don't use this as an excuse to "re-introduce" grizzlies, (as if they were ever endemic in the first place). and then use that as an excuse to close off the area completely!

News Flash. There is already a trail on the south side and a bridge below Dingford. Not many folks use it today.

And that trail is slated for improvement as part of the redevelopment of the area.
Bicycles will have use of the trail every other day. That actually might make the idea of biking to the TH not so bad.

So, yeah, if you intend to do a bike and camp don't plan on coming out the next day by way of the trail?

Can't you stash it in the woods, out of sight and locked up? That's what I'd do.

There is a lot of deadfall on the south side and the MFK area is quite wet - not necessarily ideal conditions for a bike trail. If it gets much bike use it will devolve into an eroded, muddy trail, costly to maintain per user, and the FS will eventually abandon mantenance. I doubt many hikers will want to slog in the aftermath either. Not to worry, the architects of this plan are true geniuses.

The bridge is not at dingford, it's about 7 miles before it.

There is a bridge below dingford too (a nice one). I don't have a shot of the bridge, but here are couple of shots from it.

I could have sworn that there were plans to improve that trail to make it more bike-friendly. Am I spacing?
Mike, IIRC, there is a bridge at the Middle Fork TH, one at Dingford, and one a ways above Goldmyer. That's three plus the one they are adding at Goldmyer.

I've used all three of the existing bridges--the one by the big parking lot, the one at dingford and the one near the end of the MFK. Frankly, if wading is feasible at Goldmyer, the only thing I'd use the Dingford bridge for is accessing points south The road is much faster walking. As long as the road is driveable, the hike downstream from the uppermost bridge is nice.
What's all this talk about Grizzlies. You been talkin to my bro' Backpacker Joe?

Hey Moe, where is the upper bridge? How far up from Goldmyer?

Maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 mile before the true end of the road. There's a little sign (easy to miss) that must mark the trail down to it.

The trail hits the road a mile or less from the end, give or take. Start watching the right side of the road at the wide spot before the end (where some people park to go to the Hardscrabbles). There's a sign (or was last time I was up there). You can also cut straight down the hill from that wide spot and hit the trail. The bridge is a ways downstrean from where the trail meets the road so doing so shaves a bit off the distance to the hotsprings.
Hiking into Goldmyer downstream is the easiest route with a bridge. There's a 3" pipe spouting water partway to the springs. There's also a road that crosses the route. I've been told there's a ford on one of the roads upstream from Goldmyer, but I've never checked. If so, you might be able to cross in your 4Runner and drive most of the trail from the ford to the springs (just kidding of course )

I think the upper bridge was built around 2000 or 2001. I remember seeing the construction.
Tom is right on about the other side being a lousy bike trail. At least from what I have seen from the Dingford bridge to the Snow lake trail. Tire tracks would rut out easy. Part of the current trail parallels the river pretty close. It would suck to see it tore up.

Upper bridge - 'bout 3/4 mile walk from the upper trailhead.
