Never took one with hiking but how about a raspberry paczki? For sheer flavor it is hard to get much better. Paczkis don't seem to get as much love here in the Pacific NW as they do in the Midwest. We should get rid of President's Day and make Paczki Day a national holiday. For something a little healthier sugar snap peas are nice. About as tasty as a vegetable can get by itself. Chocolate and butter in the same dish? That aint right.

That's one nice thing about hiking in a small group... if you don't like what's in your bag, you can raid your fellow hikers' bags! devilsmile.gif burger.gif LOL

In the winter when snowshoeing, I can make certain partners of mine do things like put on my tire chains for this: The Easiest Best Fudge Ever: 1 cup sugar 1/2 tsp salt 3 Tbl unsalted butter 1/2 cup heavy cream (ie. whipping cream) 1 3/4 cup minature marshmallows 1 1/2 cups of chips (use any flavor! Chocolate, peanut butter, vanilla, butterscotch, mint, etc) 1/2 tsp vanilla or whatever flavor extract you would like (almond, peppermint, etc.) Combine sugar, salt, butter, cream and marshmallows in a heavy medium saucepan. Set over medium heat, cook, stirring until butter and marshmallows are almost melted. That will take about 5-6 minutes. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes. Take off burner. Add chips and flavoring to pan. Start stirring and keep that going until all the chips are melted and it looks all nicely mixed. Pour into the pan. Let sit for 3 hours (or 1 in the fridge) before you take out of the pan. You don't need anything else in your pack with this stuff........

Whahht? No mention of the famous (or infamous?) Polarbear peanut butter and (sliced) garden fresh tomato sandwich as nutricious delicious trail worthy delacacy? Ok, maybe for for sitdown lunch feast, but back to trail "snacks": #1 50/50 mix of cashews and crasins -uncluttered and perfect mix of salt and sweet. #2 homemade beefjerky up.gif FYI - marinated flank or topround in soysauce, pinnapple juice, brown sugar, liquid smoke, blk. pepper and fresh shreaded ginger root. Dried in convective dehydrator @ 165 F. for 8 hrs. Exceptional! #3 Cliff bars

Processed meat consumption results in 6700% increase in pancreatic cancer risk, says new research Posted Apr 20, 2005 Consuming processed meats increases the risk of pancreatic cancer, says new research conducted at the University of Hawaii that followed nearly 200,000 men and women for seven years. According to lead study author Ute Nothlings, people who consumed the most processed meats (hot dogs and sausage) showed a 6700% increased risk of pancreatic cancer over those who consumed little or no meat products...
