My Grandma once told me about the Thanksgiving where they had "Wind Soup and Rabbit Tracks with a Pine Float for dessert"
Sometimes that was all they had in North Dakota in the early 1900s.

I have a freshly dead young raccoon in my freezer. Really.
I was watching Rocky's family cross 5th Avenue. The first four made it.
Anybody know a taxidermist N Seattle area who might want to do Rocky's pelt for me?
I gotta know before Thanksgiving.

Not too exotic, but I usually make a huckleberry pie.
I made the bestest one ever in my chicken fryer turned dutch oven whilst in the evil empire of California. It also cooked faster than in a conventional oven.
35 hot charcoal briquettes, 15 on the bottom, the rest on the top. Oh, and parchment paper in the bottom of the pot. It cooked fast but it was also a warm and sunny day.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Pretty much everything I make is unusual.
Add some really good, tried-and-true, honest, awesome, forever-friends who embody the very definition of Friend, and there's my Thanksgiving.

I'm making a quince/apple pie.
Cranberry/lingonberry/juniper berry sauce
Sweet potato biscuits (with spices and lemon peel)
That's the unusual stuff that I'm bringing to dinner.

I'm thinking there is a road kill cookbook out there. My dad came home a few times with quail that he hit with the car. An impromptu menu change.

It wouldn't be thanksgiving without turkey gravy on homemade sauerkraut. Honest! You can't make up something like that.

I believe you. I mean, who would WANT to make something like that up.

I've got the homemade sauerkraut; been making it for years, since I learned how easy it is. But can't see putting gravy on it.
For Thanksgiving: Turkey, but my wife raised it (and its 5 friends).
