Another great one goes on.

"The wilderness is gathering all its children back again." (from 'Last Year's Man' by Leonard Cohen).

Back in the mid 1970’s when I had a overseas job with lots of travel opportunities I somehow managed to end up at a party with a very international group of dirtbag ski bums at a resort in Switzerland. At some point during the evening Leonard Cohen music got played. I had never heard of him or his music. But I thought… whoa, who IS this guy, and how does he think up lyrics like that?
I generally prefer silence to any sound (even music) but I enjoy thought provoking verse. In my opinion there are three lyricists that stand out. Cohen produces some with the most depth. James McMurty does an excellent job of capturing the heart and soul of hardscrabble life in west Texas. His lyrics are a bit rough around the edges but so is life in west Texas. Dylan, well what can you say about Dylan. How many artists are secure enough in their space to ignore a Nobel prize?

Driving through the forest listening to the radio yesterday on came Judy Collins covering one of his songs. I listened as I did the first time I heard Joan Baez. Collins has a nice voice and those lyrics, one's from a poet.

Long ago I read an article about a meeting between Dylan and Cohen where they discussed their process when writing a song.
Cohen would agonize over his lyrics and slowly craft his songs. Dylan caimed he wrote his songs as if he was transcribing a stream of thoughts.
Two different methods, two of the best.
He will be missed.
"What is the color when black is burned?" - Neil Young
"We're all normal when we want our freedom" - Arthur Lee
"The internet can make almost anyone seem intelligent" - Washakie
