The house was a bit cold upon returning from a trip to visit family back east for the holidaze. And I'm feeling it due to the common cold I picked up from pretty much everyone back there. Thus, the wood stove is crackling behind me now. An insurance inspection of our house forced us to update from our 36 year old stove to a new one, which is clearly much more efficient, and it has a nice bonus that the glass on the door tends to stay cleaner - all the better for enjoying the visual aspect of the fire (my sister in law in ME has a metal door on her wood stove - much less fun!!).
Yeah, we're probably going to run out of dry wood soon here. I've been splitting and stacking a nice sized pile thanks to getting a bunch of free cut rounds of Fir from a new neighbor who cut down a handful of big trees on their property last summer. But they won't be ready for burning this season. I finally got the hang of using the sledge/wedge combo for breaking up the rounds into pieces I can carry and split with an axe.

I rarely cut any trees on my property. I like them. When I find any dead ones I cut them. Im always on the spy for wood for sale over here.
On a fun/silly note, at thanksgiving I saw a truck with firewood for sale in North Bend. On the side of the truck it said, "Organic Firewood" I sure had a good laugh at that one.

I am sure Organic Firewood costs more.
I need to do some thinning around here so will be dumping some trees and cutting them up for firewood. Then maybe it will be spring and the Forest Service will provide? The latter has been difficult due to washed out roads and there is quite a bit of competition for firewood out there. I have been getting it from cleaning up slash piles on private property, but those are gone.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

You have to make sure it's gluten free.

Inorganic firewood is called coal

I scored a load of Alder today. We have gotten quite a bit of snow so Alder trees are committing suicide. Today's haul was from our road.

The preferred method of firewood transport. From shed to porch. LOL.

Our stove has been going all day here, but Im having trouble getting it warm enough. We got a bunch of free wood the past two years from my parents, who had some huge firs and cedars removed from their yard. I think this year we'll use most of that up. Next summer I'm either going to have to buy more wood, or buy a trailer to haul my own. We got spoiled the last two years.

Pretty sure coal is about as organic as you can get.

Yeah, -3° near Thorp this morning, reports of -7° in Roslyn/Cle Elum area. Skis are in the truck, because I'm a lunch hour masochist.

Swapped the skis for the fat bike today. I need to start getting in shape for the bike season anyway, but the scales were so loud on the ice yesterday I was getting annoyed... even though the sky was certainly beautiful at sunset...
