No Alder is a hardwood, it is stained usually for furniture and is frequently more valuable than fir or hemlock.

Ironically, no, even though we think of it as a shrubby, invasive, and unimpressive tree when compared to the big Doug Firs and Cedars. It is light, but considered a hardwood.

alder = hardwood. and amazingly light, compared to that stick made of plum I posted above.

I call it a soft hardwood. It is known as "the poor man's cherry" because it can be stained to look like cherry or probably other spendier wood. Because of that, instead of being considered a weed, it is worth a bit of money now if it is straight and of the right size.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
