"Hey buddy" as somebody softly kicked at my side.
I peeped my head out of my sleeping bag and my squinted eyes were blinded by the lights of a bright flashlight.
"Can I see your permit"
"Aint got one" I could smell my bad breath as I spoke
"You know you need a permit to overnight here?"
In my sleeping bag, I sat up at a 90 degree angle, yawn and rubbed my eyes.
"Yes I do" I responded, still yawning and rubbing my eyes
"But that wasn't my intention. I got tired and decided to get comfy in my sleeping bag and took a nap. I figured it was the safe and responsible thing to do. Guess I overslept. What time is it by the way?"
"One thirty am"
"I'll be on my way at first light"
"No worries. Travel safe"
"Thanks! Nighty-night"
"Sweet dreams"
Layed back down horizontal and listened to their footsteps slowly and quietly fade away
I quietly mumbled to myself, "works every time"

It won't now.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Yeah, thumb down. But if I were the sort of person who tried that and I found it worked, the last thing I'd do is post the tactic to a public forum which is read by several rangers...

camp poachers.
Not a big problem unless they steal the official quota spots, like on the High Divide in the ONP. If you are going to be a scofflaw about it at least find a hidden spot away from the well trodden areas, don't steal the official assigned spots and then make a crying huffy threatening fuss when the person who paid for and got a permit for the spot shows up.
That is low class asshattery at its finest.
Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

Didn't see a "this spot reserved" sign so I layed out my sleeping bag on the beautiful flat granite slab.
Not sure how they spotted me in the dark. Maybe it was the glowing embers of the fantastic fire I had burning a few hours earlier.
Gimme a break! I had to keep the dog warm

Lol hell yeah, i like your style! I usually pick spots up high on a rocky ridge close to a summit, no reservations required.

If I was going to do that I'd at least find a spot where no one would see me...

Bootpathguy, you've got a long way to go before you can give TAH a run for his/her money.

It's got nothing at all to do with car camping, its about scamping w/o a permit. Sounds like stuff that probably happens a lot in the Entitlements, I mean Enchantments.
I've heard many excuses mixed with crying, whining and aggressive posturing when scampers are caught in the wrong but none-the-less expect to get what they want - everyone else be damned, like a tantrum pitching 3 tear old. And if all else fails, claim to be the "victim".
Hmmm, that sounds remarkably familiar these days.

Speaking of which, isn't it that time of year for TAH to come out of winter hibernation and bestow another TR upon us?
