Accessed Frosty Mountain today with John Stolk, starting from the end of Icicle Creek Road. We figured it might be shorter than the White Pine trailhead approach from the north, considering there is a shortcut trail shown on certain maps.

What we didn't know is that the cutoff is far gone and only a few feint traces remain after crossing the giant log bridge. We were stubborn about it however and forced our way through dense brush and piles of broken logs and sticks, all the way to the upper trail that leads to Frosty Pass.

From the pass a nice east ridge quickly turns to alpine. I visited both summits although the furthest is about 20 feet lower. We decided to descend the main trail which detours absurdly adding about 3 miles for a total of roughly 19 miles. Thanks John for a great day!

Well, thanks for satisfying my curiosity as to conditions on the old trail on the far side of the river. I still may have to give it a shot some time when I have excess energy to burn. (Yeah, right.) I've been to the bridge site a few times, which is a nice forest destination in itself. You can see the log crossing in my photos, as well as the brush on the other side.
