This is the "easy" trail from FS road, not the route up from Barclay Lake. The tires on our vehicle aren't the best, so we parked the car well before the start of the trail. We walked on the road until we reached the start of the fisherman's trail. The first part was a bit of a pain - the snow was knee deep and we neglected to bring the snowshoes along. Once we crossed a small talus and got into the trees the trail was much better. At Paradise Meadows the snow was waist-deep in places. Did some post-holing to the lake. Close to 8 miles R/T. We didn't see anyone else on the trail. There were some snowshoe tracks and footprints that were a couple of days old. Didn't see any animals, but did spot what look like old cougar tracks in the snow.

Nice report. Thanks. TB

hockeygrin.gif this is one that IMO, where eagle lake and the meadows would probably be better off without the publicity on this route... but that's for another thread.

Looks like a print from a largish bunny rear foot that's melted out a bit. Bears have more of a round print overall, don't they?

agreed. strange thing though, harvey manning of all people mentioned the off-trail route in the 100 hikes series of books... so it's not like nobody knows about it.

the number is still relatively small, though I don't know why. If the publicity stays low, Eagle lake may stay decent for a number of years to come.

Waist deep at the lake!!! I remember when my brother and I climbed townsend mountain in late "JUNE", there was about four feet of snow at paradise meadows. It is amazing how low the snow is this year.
