My buddy Eddie wanted views so we had decided on Green Mountain and Absolute Last Promontory which is featured in Manning and Springs Snoqualmie Pass book. Connor, Eddie, Jessica and i left the car about 10:15 am knowing we had a long road ahead of us, literally. After parking at the school bus turn around (950 feet) we headed down mt. si road to the closed gate marking the CCC road. We continued along the CCC road-trail which felt like forever before reaching the turn off for the Green Mountain trail, 3.5 miles from the car. The turn off is easy to mis, marked by a rusty gate half hidden in the brush that heads left and up. 0.25 miles up the road we reached a Y and went right, crossed a stream then encountered another Y we went right again. This is were the trail begins to head up, and up. After a couple of long switch backs the view begin to open up, and they are awsome. A couple miles from the road we crossed brawling creek, but due to lack of snow/rain it was more like trickling creek. This is where the real work begins as trail starts to really gain elevation for the last mile or so. We then hit the last Y, with the left trail leading to the summit, we went right to last chance promontory (3000 feet), and continued the final hundred yards to Absolute Last Promontory, wow! Excellent view east toward Mailbox, Russian Butte, Mt. Garfield, Mt. Washington, and the entire Snoqualmie River Valley. We sat taking pictures and eating lunch for maybe an hour or two, we deserved it! A small plane flew by, below us, pretty cool looking down on aircraft. The descent was quick but the CCC road walk was even longer than when we came in for my legs and feet were tired. 12 miles round trip, 2000 feet of elevation gain, with only one other lonely soul encountered. Not bad for a Saturday.
