Oh man. This is hard. It's really a tie between Heart of Gold, Old Man, and The Needle and the Damage Done. I voted for The Needle because it has so much depth. So much meaning. So much heart. I remember when Old Man and Heart of Gold were released and hit the radio in the early 70s. Of course both immediately were among everyone's favorites. Really nice songs. But The Needle is just so much more. I saw Neil Young in concert a few years ago. Maybe five years now, or a little longer. He sang The Needle, and it was a very special moment. This is him live, I don't know when or where.

Couldn't pick a fav, but this ensemble....................... the guy is feral.

It is as though I had read a divine text, written into the world itself, not with letters but rather with essential objects, saying: Man, stretch thy reason hither, so thou mayest comprehend these things. Johannes Kepler

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

Going way back. Mr Soul. Love how Neil steps in at 1:10 and takes over.

Without giving it too much thought, I'll just toss out a few more of my many favorites, beyond the obvious choices already mentioned... - Thrasher (Rust Never Sleeps) - Danger Bird (Zuma) - Revolution Blues (On the Beach) - Bound for Glory (Old Ways) - Last Trip to Tulsa (Neil Young) - White Line (acoustic version from Homegrown)

Needle and the Damage Done. When I was a kid, my friends and I listened to the album over and over; the record skipped in the middle of the song, and to this day, I still hear that skip - I still know exactly where that skip was. Helpless; when I was a kid, I learned to play that on the guitar. I can't sing worth a flip, but I did anyway. My friends and I played and sang Heart of Gold all the time; it's not my favorite, but I can still hear us, in my memory and in my heart. While these may not be the best of the best, I love them for these. Music is usually that way. You love a song or hate it because of the memory. Well unless it's Afternoon Delight, or a Wings song (pick any, esp. that idiotic Xmas song they do), or I Dig Rock & Roll Music or Sugar Shack; I hate those because they're incredibly stupid-sounding songs, and they did that all on their own with no help from any memory associated with them.

Feral is an understatement. This guy goes to a place nobody else can. A place of great centeredness and power. Great vid. You can see it there. You can also see that extreme of self-possession and intensity in others from time to time. I'm immediately reminded of Marc-André Leclerc (The Alpininst). He and Neil Young both had a similar type of power, just expressed differently.

Love that song if you have ever been to small towns in north Ontario you understand beautiful but bleak. The song paints a perfect picture. Same as many towns in many places.

I've driven all over this country listening to Neil Young! I remember singing "24 and there's so much" more even before I was 24! I'll be 54 in February...

Saw this interview with Neil Young on PBS. He's a pretty interesting well-spoken guy. up.gif https://vimeo.com/768699045

Re-act-or and Hawks and Doves are often ignored. I like those albums and his gutter phase.
