Living The Dream

Wrongbridge, Hoosierdaddy, GoBlueHiker, Rainrunner, Ford and me headed out to Leavenworth on saturday morning. We met up with "J", McPuck and his friend "S" in town. To say the least...the weather was intresting this weekend-we had overcast weather for our hike in...... Rainy and me hiked in together, letting the guys floor it. And who did we run into? CascadeHiker...I think it is our yearly thing wink.gif (I loved the photo btw!) Further along, we ran into Mr. F. and his daughter "K". I know them from when I lived on Whidbey Island. They had just done Colchuck Glacier. "K" is 18, and has been doing glaciers and whatnot since she was 14 or so. She is a sweetie-though I can bet if any lecherous climber looked at her, dad would poke their eyes out wink.gif We reached Colchuck with a nippy wind moving in, and fast dispearing vistas. At 5 pm it was starting to snow (it was snowfree mostly up there before this). We set up our camps, and set off to have dinner and explore-before it became a better winter wonderland. It snowed and sleeted frozen rain till about 4 am. I got up in the middle of the night in the snowstorm and walked outside. It was just gorgeous. It was intensly bright outside-and only the sound of the wind howling. Our wussy lightweight single pole tents surpassed all hopes we had-we had almost no sagging in the morning..oohlalla! (Yes, all of us are lightweight backpackers) Woke up at 5 am to clear skies and very nippy temps.....first time I have cooked breakfast in my sleeping bag wink.gif Hoosierdaddy, GoBlue and "J" set off for their climb of Colchuck Glacier. The rest of us wusses packed up to get warm - it had started to snow again. On the way down Rainy and me ran into Dicey and her gang smile.gif After losing Rainy to Stuart Lake, Ford and me ran into GetOutAndGo...he recognized me from photos on here (sorry about Ford...sometimes he is Mr. Chatty Kathy wink.gif I will let Hoosierdaddy talk about the climb...that is not my area of expertiese wink.gif It was discussed in this thread today: https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9957&start=15 Needless to say, burgers at Gustav's and ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery was very needed before the Big Blue Party Bus drove our tired butts home! Sounds like you had fun, I gave you my excuse in the PM I sent you, but you have to admit, I was pretty right on with the weather and I could never bring myself to stand in line in a designated wilderness behind 20 backpackers registering at the TH. I did checkout some gear and did eat at Gustavs though ! I am preparing for the Enchantment Thruhike or overnighter before the 15th with a couple of scrambles. hockeygrin.gif

Those must have been the yodelers (yes, they yodeled...) that came into camp late in the day. The ones that we noticed parked 1/4 mile away to not pay the $5 clown.gif Also the same group with the guy in barefeet and a t-shirt in the snow dizzy.gif http://community.webshots.com/album/351335266EBWlvc Rainy's photos...very nice!
