I said I'd never read any such advice. Now I have . cool.gif Even before this new study, I would have called "BS" on such wacky advice. Besides, who is actually following such a regimen, putting sunscreen on for a five-minute exposure, for example? Nobody I know. So nobody I know needs to make any adjustment to their sunscreen applications due to this (original) article. Even the link just posted above uses examples of longer exposure, like walking to work, not just walking from your car to your workplace, or walking the dog, not a five-minute activity, or eating lunch outdoors, also not an ultra-short exposure. Not one example they gave was of sunscreen needed for a very short exposure. So if you are a sunscreen extremist who slathers the stuff on before even poking your head out the door for 30 seconds, then you might consider changing your habits. The rest of us are unaffected.

Doctors around the world will be glad to hear your assessment of their advice.

Show me "doctors around the world" who advocate putting sunscreen on for a five-minute sun exposure, and I'll ridicule them for you. Another post of yours not grounded in common sense. I'll say this, you're remarkably consistent.

For some time doctors have been recommending sunscreen for daily use. I’ll say this, you’re remarkably consistent at ignoring the facts. up.gif

So "daily use" means the exact same thing as "for every five minute exposure"? dizzy.gif That's crazy talk. How can I ignore a "fact" that's never been presented?

Admin, please lock this thread so those of us contributing can go outside and get some vitamin D.

I came across this and many other similar studies/medical reports (although I can't find them now of course but a google search will bring up others I'm sure) when I was looking for sunscreen for my upcoming Caribbean cruise. http://www.skinbiology.com/toxicsunscreens.html#Free%20Radical%20Generators%20and%20Gender-Bending Not sure what to believe anymore but for now I think I'll stick to covering up or avoiding harsh rays and using sunscreen only when it's absolutely necessary and to prevent ruining my trips with a sunburn.

But if you get sunburned, then you could change your name to Irish Red!

That’s funny, I bumped into that same page. It must be high on the Google ranking. The following is particularly interesting:
Quote:
1. In 1927, 12,745 physicians endorsed smoking Lucky Strike cigarettes as a healthful activity. In the 1940s and 1950s, thousands of prominent surgeons were used in national cigarette advertisements to reassure the public about the safety of cigarette smoking.
As it relates to sunscreen advice (or anything else for that matter), it’s no surprise the mix of industry and government recommendations are best taken with a grain of salt.
