Over 100 miles north and east of Monroe, in North Cascades National Park, a 3 hour drive. Perfect weather -- clear, cool, still, few bugs. 7.4 mile round trip trail, about 4 hours out plus 1/2 hour lunch. We enjoyed a small doe and two teeny fawns at trailhead, despite two dozen rigs and people milling. Saw a fun big marmot, yawning under sun on rock below trail on our way up.
Some 35 switchbacks on a gentle, good trail made whole day an awesome experience, close up to land above trees. Crags with trails in every direction, and rangers in attendance and doing on-site studies. We hiked from 3100 ft. at trailhead to some 5650 ft. at Cascade Pass. Pictures convey more than words our viewing experience.
