To do an overnight in the Glacier Peak Wilderness are reservations or permits required in advance? I think I just sign up at the trailhead and it's simple as that. I truly cannot figure this out in the maze of websites from the FS...I'm not even sure which ranger station to contact. dizzy.gif Links I've tried: Link1 What questions does this answer? TIA

Not that I know of. I've always just showed up at a TH and went for it.

Unlike the Alpine lakes wilderness, you don't even need a free pass at the trailhead. Just go to it and good luck. That's one reason it's my favorite wilderness, no big brother BS. Plus of course the last true wilderness volcano in the lower 48. As far as a ranger district to ask questions, try Darrington. That's smack-dab in the middle of the area.

ditto.gif Lots of portals or entry points and trails that don't see much use. You may not even see anybody. agree.gif

You won't see many people because most people aren't going to drive that many miles just to visit a logged-off, second-rate area. The trailhead bandits are the only ones really promoting the Glacier Peak Wilderness. However, the locals sure get a bang out of the area. And remember, if you have a problem with the locals along any of the approaches, whatever you do, don't call the cops. Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire! For some adventurous souls, the GPW might be a thrifty way of getting a taste of the Smokey Mountains without having to spring for the air fare. But I wouldn't cut corners when it comes to having all your shots.

Thanks for the info. No permits sounds good, as they must sound to many others from what I've read above. cool.gif
