The "Level 5" map of the North Cascades shows no Highway 20!
Do Nat'l Geographic offer updates of the actual map images?

I'm pretty sure the USGS topo has not been updated. Hence the outdated level 5. Follow the wagon trail as that's about where the road is.
It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.

Before I drive to Lynnwood for REI to get one, does the Green Trails map for the Washington Pass/Highway 20 vicinity (Rainy Lake, Maple Pass, etc) show the Blue Lake trail?

Yup. #'s 49 & 50.

Blue Lake would be on #50 as I know the Maple Pass is right on the corner of four maps, 49, 50 and 81 and 82 and since Blue Lake is East of Rainy Lake it could not be on 49.

Well now that could be. My #50 shows 2 Maple Pass trails going off the left of the sheet which would be off to 49. I don't have 81 or 82. I'm bad.

The latest version uploads the maps as they become updated. You also can find trail overlays on the website, I have posted a few there. The latest version comes with the 3d upgrade.

If you have the TOPO state version (as compared to just the North Cascades), and if you've bought the add-on that lets you do the 3D flyovers, there is a button at the top to select for local streets and roads. Hwy 20 would show up if you have that turned on.
It's not foolproof / perfect. For instance, it labels the trail through the upper Enchantments as a "jeep trail", as I recall.
Bear in mind that the TOPO maps are based on the USGS maps. If they haven't updated the quad, new information won't appear in TOPO either. Green Trails usually picks up the various trail re-routings; USGS quad sheets, and TOPO, will still be showing a trail where it was back in 1980 or whenever.

You can also download this GPS track of Hwy 20 from the National Geographic website.

Or trace the road from the level 4 map, and display it on level 5.

Get TOPO! 4, Streets and 3D Views. A $20 upgrade. Worth it for the logging roads and trails alone. Shows name of road or trail with mouse rollover. I've never tried the 3D part as my computer lacks the umph to run it.

Use terraserver arial photos to figure out the correct location of the roads and then plot it on topo with the routemaking tool.
