When I was a kid, my phone number in Detroit was KEnwood-35002, later 533-5002.
I had found a webiste years ago that had a list of exchanges and discovered mine in Seattle is MElrose. A freind of mine who grew up in Seattle had the exchange, EMpire.
What was yours? Give the city and state as well.

Quark, you even think like an accountant. People do not retain numbers like that in their head. Sick. Sick I tell you.
I bet you could even tell me what your AGI on your 1040 was in 1988.

ROckwell.
I'd post the rest, but you'd probably call my mom. She's still using the number I grew up with.
A fuxk, why do I not give one?

No, wait... that was a song.
For once I guess I can say I'm to young to know what mine was (or just too forgetful).
Let's go with too young.

can I play too? PONTIAC!
it was in Montreal... I think we moved up to seven digits in the mid-70s - as in numbers and no more names. Or so I recall.
And of course now, both Montreal and Vancouver are ten-digit cities. Indeed, you have to dial the area code and the number, even though you are placing a call to your neighbor across the street.
Has this caught on in the States yet for landline numbers (not cell)

Ok, I really never heard this, but based on MC's post, I have to deduct that my number would have been:
TRiangle 1-1209, Port Orchard, WA.
A coincidence? Or maybe you're stalking me and I just haven't noticed.

This is why the city/state/province is interesting to note: Pontiac was an indian chiefs' name in the Detroit area, and perhaps it's noted in Montreal as well.
EMpire was a common name in Seattle (MLK Blvd used to be called Empire Way).
I dunno - this stuff is interesting to me. I don't know why. I hope it stirs up some nice memories for everyone, like it does for me.
I like to hear it in old movies, too: Joan Crawford picking up the phone and instructing the operator, in a rapid, impatient, yet eloquent manner, "MIssion4-6698, please...yes, I'll hold"
