An easier hike today, a nice loop beginning on the Bullion Basin trail, 1156 up to the PCT (2.5 miles), continued on the PCT to Bear Gap and down to Silver Creek trail 1192 and back to the car. Many junctions and passes with intriguing names (Bluebell Pass, Pickhandle Gap), mist and fog, old trail signs.
The loop is 6.4 miles round-trip with about 1,600 feet gain. Despite the fog hiking the PCT from Bullion Basin to Crown Point was a pleasure. Many flowers, colorful minerals in the rocks and those gnarled, moody trees that look like monsters in the mist. Can't wait to get back on a clear day for the views.
Came across an interesting old sign at a junction for "Fog City" with an arrow pointing downhill. Anyone know anything about "Fog City"? It's trail No. 969A according to map. Apparently another way to get to Bear Gap. Sure would like to know more about Fog City.
Also came across an old PCT trail sign embedded in a tree.
Nice hike. Aren't they all?

Crystal Mtn area 'place names'
Suspect the name 'Fog City' may be related to mining or other early activities in the area, ie "Gold Hills", "Jim Town" etc. These are depicted on the trails maps available at the Crystal Mtn resort. My very old PCT guides do not provide any further information.
Did this hike as a snowshoe trip on April 20 of this year... did it clockwise on the attached GPS route... avalanche possibilities exist as you hike into Bullion Basin...

RE: Info on "Fog City" near Crystal Mtn - from 1962 PCT guide
Re-reading found some more detailed information, consistent with the past post. Here is a quote from page 105 -106 from "High Trails -
A Guide to the Cascade Crest Trail" by Robert H Wills:
"FOG CITY (5850) Fog City is a pass between Silver Creek (w.) and Morse Creek (e). Fog City, lying just below the CCT [PCT] on the e. side, is the site of an old mining camp, long since disappeared. Mining and prospecting are done along this section of the CCT and sign of both may be seen along the trailway. There is good campsite approximately .2 mile down the spur trail.
Spur Trail (6100) Junction with a side trail (e.) to Morse Creek Basin and Morse Creek Road, 1 mile. Elizabeth Town, a tiny mining settlement, is located at the end of the short trail. "
...for what this is worth....
