A simple black/white yes/no question
Quote: | Flashpacking is just backpacking, with an awful lot of tech gear going along for the ride," said Lee Gimpel, 29, a writer from Virginia who "flashpacked" around India for a few months and recorded his adventures... |

I voted yes. But, only partially.
For hiking I carry a GPS, Digital camera, Ham Radio and sometimes a camcorder.
If I travel I will include a laptop and recharger/batteries for the above equipment.

Hmm, let's see. I carry a GPS (Garmin 60 CSx), a digital camera (Sony TSC-30 which replaced my Canon Digital Rebel XT), a black, 5th gen 60 GB I-Pod), an altimeter/compass wristwatch, a PDA and a cell phone (always off on the trail though). Sometimes a camcorder.
Nah, not me, I'm a minimalist.

I'm a yes. I solo hike most of the time, so I take a GPS and Ham radio for safety. MP3 player at times and sometimes a PDA. Cell phone if there's a possibility of a signal, but that hasn't been happening too much on the hikes I've recently been doing, so I leave it behind. Digital camera is always along. Oh no, I've become a techno geek!.......

I usually have my LED headlamp, digital camera, and monocular. Very rarely, when Chubbyhubby insists, I have the cell phone along - to be turned on only if I truly need to make a call out. I don't take along any other electronic things.

Wow, according to this article, don't use your cell phone during a thunderstorm, else your next conversation might be with your maker.
