Got to the pass above North Lake and saw that it was still mostly frozen
Frozen North Lake
so went back to the larger tarn on the near side of the pass and found a rock to sit on.
Tarn
Tarn was still mostly frozen but kicked the snow away at a spot on shore so we could swim.
Lorna takes a swim in an icy tarn off the North Lake Trail
Still lots of snow up around that pass, at 4900 feet, but got some good looks at Glacier Peak.
Glacier Peak
And Devils Thumb I think.
Devils Thumb
Slipped back on down.
Slip slidin'
Felt appropriate to visit Independence Lake.
Independence Lake
Fun day.

Wow! Your girlfriend / wife is hardcore! You make it in as well?
How was snow coverage on the trail up to the pass?

Never got her name DHM, just some girl I met at the Spar Tree lounge in Granite Falls.
Yeah I went in too, quickly. Many patches of snow for about half mile before the pass and all around the pass area, and lots on the trail down to North Lake on the other side.
