I have a whole gallon of milk that expires is 4 days, but I'm not gonna be around much those four days to use it. Any suggestions on how I can use up the milk before it goes bad? Any recipes that require LOTS of milk?
I hate wasting milk

Cereal?
(I currently have no less than SIX gallons of milk in the fridge and I only manage about a cup a day in coffee. My girls, on the other hand, seem to eat only with a sippy full of milk in the other hand.)

Gravy. Freeze what you don't want to use right away.

Bah! Expiration dates are for idiots.
Why back in my day, we didn't have no expiration dates, and I turned out ok.
That milk'll be good long after the date printed on the carton.

Get some yogurt maker stuff and mix that in and turn it into yogurt. Yogurt won't spoil fast.

Ever notice that Darigold expiration dates are out like a month and all the other brands expire in about a week - I wonder what they are putting in there

No, Pepperoni, I can't say I've ever noticed the expiration dates on Darigold brand being a month later than other brands.
Frankly, I'm worried that you have noticed this.
You need to get out more.

It's the major reason I buy the brand, a quart lasts more than a week in the fridge for me even after I have opened it. For a bachelor who likes to limit his time shopping in the food store this can be priceless, especially if you wake up on a Sunday morning and you've discovered the milk you just put in your first cup of coffee is spoiled.
Other brands seem to go bad just four or 5 days after opening them
By the way, your username is just one letter away from being "Quart"

Tell it to the marines.
I'm a bachelor too, and I don't give a good goddam about which milk expires sooner. And I prolly hate grocery shoppin' 63 times more than you hate it. At least.
What you oughta be doing when you first wake up on Sundays is you oughta be either grabbing some ole hair-of-the-dog to steady the shakes, or be cussin' cuz you pitched your tent backwards so your head has been downhill the last several hours, and now your face is all fat. That's the kind of thing you should be doing first thing Sunday mornings.
2nd thing to worry about is the milk for the joe. I sorta sometimes wish I was wierd enough to know the expiration dates of various milk brands. I'm almost envious, to tell you the truth.

Maybe Darigold uses fresh cows for its milk. Or maybe locality has something to do with it. Their motto is "Choose local. Choose fresh."
Quote: | Darigold is the forth largest dairy cooperative in the United States based on milk volume, and one of the largest privately held organizations headquartered in the state of Washington - thanks to dedicated producers and employees.
Many of our member-owners, who manage herds as small as 50 cows and as large as 20,000, are multi-generation dairy producers. They take enormous pride in their modern dairy operations, as evidenced by the quality of their cows' milk. Darigold employees are equally passionate about our products, and they work in a culture of teamwork and employee involvement. From the farm to our customers' delivery docks, our people bring dedication and creative energy to continually improve our operations and products. |
Hmmm...a list of recipes from Darigold's website that might help Dane out!
