I do quite a bit of writing in general. But because I climb and hike, alot of my writing is oriented towards that. I know that there are some writers here that regularly contribute to local publications.
I've been told by some friends with editing experience that I should submit my work to various publications.
So I have no idea how to start, who to contact, where to look for openings. Does anyone have a heads up on the process or can refer me to people that deal with publishing climbing and hiking related articles? Help a brotha out! I can submit writing samples if requested. Thanks in advance.
Nothing I can sing will bring you back. Not the songs of a hundred horses running until they become wind. Not the personal song of the rain who makes love to the earth.

I wasn't aware that you held that level of enthusiasm towards writing. If I would have known I would have requested seeing some to accompany the images you have shown Andrew and I.

Years ago I used a book called “The Writers Marketplace” to find places to send stories. The book shows what the editorial staff wants and how to submit. At the outset I’d send anything I was trying to get published to 5-10 locations. The book was very helpful. If it’s still produced, buy a copy or borrow it from your local library. Make note of places you’ve sent publication candidates to as it can take months for them to send a reply.
Good luck and keep at it! The general rule is that you will, in effect end up receiving enough rejection letters to wall paper your home with before you get published.
Thanks for the suggestions and links. I write every day so I have alot of material floating out there. So they'll eventually get tired of sending me rejection letters and have to publish me at some point.

Hi, there was a class at the Experimental college at the UW which dealth with how to get published. It met once, possibly twice per quarter, it might still be offered there.
