The short version: we went where Wildernessed went, except it was warmer for us.
Just a brief report. We met NWHikers Joe at the trailhead for this outing. Our goal was to head up the gulley between Diamond and the unnamed point, then decide which one to ascend when we arrived. We ended up going to the top of the 6000' point, partly because it had a broken trail upwards. I'm glad we did since it was less treed than Diamond. We went straight up to the ridge along a partially exposed scree field. Snowshoes went off, which helped quite a bit, but the rocks were pretty rolley. Higher up it gave way to snow again, but since we were so close to the top I post-holed on to the ridge.
Great views from above! All of Tronsen meadows down below. We posed for a few shots on the rocky outcrop, then followed the ridge to the top for our lunch break. Temperatures were very mild and the sun felt great. For our descent we went down the eastern ridge, which turned out to be much easier since it was all snow-covered. The snow was sun warmed and very slidey - not a good avalanche safety day. Rather than continue on and make a loop we opted to backtrack through the valley to the cars. On our way out the cloud hovering over the Enchantments finally lifted and gave us a great view of the whole Stuart range!
Nice, that was a cool ridge wasn't it, with expansive views. With better snow conditions you could tag all three of those summits and loop through Tronsen and Naneum Meadows. Glad you guys didn't have any problems in the snow conditions.
Yup, that was a nice little summit. We had visions of a loop trip along those lines - following that next ridge over and then back through the meadows - but the snow was too nasty. To avoid that big open slope it would have added several miles to our detour. In good snow and low avy danger it would be a blast to glissade down though!
