Of course trees are scenery. I would classify them with flowers - just as beautiful and equally photogenic.
In general, I like my lake shores without any trees, but sometimes trees add great character...

Is this a serious question? Does anyone think that trees are not part of the scenery? Even if you believe that trees block the scenery, I have to ask, scenery of what... more trees!
To you, is it movement or is it action, is it contact or just reaction, and you, revolution or just resistance, is this living or just existance? Yeah you, it takes a little more persistence to get up and go the distance.

So that's how you spell that.... Nicely done,GoBlueHiker.
"Diamonds are a girl's best friend my arse. A girl's best friend is a stout pair of tramping boots. Umm, maybe it's a nice reduction sauce. Urrr, perhaps it's a nice pub just down the road. OK, so it's really all three. But freakin' diamonds?!"

OK, I'm a bit bored and I've wanted to revive this thread for some time now. Favorite tree shots from 2008:

I would almost always agree that trees are scenery.
I went hiking once in western Tennessee. The land was as flat as a board. The trees and undergrowth was thick, thick, thick. It was the most monotonous hike I'd ever been on in my life, with very little to look at except trees and brush, bushes, and weeds. Didn't think the trees were terribly "scenic" on this hike.
It also was the only trip I'd been on where I was absolutely glad I had a compass.

Trees rock.
Here's 2 from this year that I felt deserved wall space.
I just put this one
Rotation of Ingalls Lake 048
in a frame.
Something about a single solemn tree, surviving on its own, to me mirrors the inner strength we all need to posess to survive in this world. I respect this tree.
This one is still waiting for a suitable frame.

Lower Flap Jack Lake This fire-charred old stump was perched on the side of a bluff below Black and White Lakes. Thought it made a great photo.
Even by themselves, trees are part of the scenery. Including the dead ones. I love hikes through old growth forest where you may not break out above the tree line. Scenery to one hiker may not be scenery to another. And thats ok
