By the numbers:
2: Morons on this trip
2: Times I wondered if we would find our way up Abiel
2: Summits
2: #2's left on the summits
2: Number of flat tires on the way back to the freeway
Our original destination 09.20.08 was Kaleetan. Driving up I-90 in the rain convinced us to keep going east. The rain let up at MP 48, and at Exit 54 we decided to head for Windy Pass. It was quite foggy, not an unusual occurence there.
Abiel+Tinkham Hikers beware
We bagged Abiel after quite a bit of wandering. The trails fade out among the deer paths on the little bump between Silver, Tinkham, and Abiel. It was so foggy, we literally could not find the ridge connecting to Abiel. Eventually the summit was gained. No views, no wind, no rain.
Keep out! Summit quick change Abiel summit
On to Tinkham. I had heard the last bit from the NW was tough, and sure enough we cliffed out. Backtracking, and careful observation led us up class 2 terrain to the top. No views, no wind, no rain.
Hold on, I need to take this Tinkham scrambler Final approach Tinkham summit Some friends A little foggy
We met two very nice ladies on the PCT. They were aiming for our route, with the addition of Silver. No one else in sight today. What I don't have a picture of is all our crap strewn about the I-90 onramp as we changed the tire (again) in shorts with no shoes.
7 miles R/T, 2600' of gain

yeah, nice report Mag, but, like, your photos aren't quite as good as usual this time. Also, I'd liketo throw out a big to the Mexican guy who saved our skin by fixing the flat for us up there. What would we do without illegal aliens in this country!

I like the summit views from Tinkham. Worth a return visit, definitely. Abiel - not so much. The Tinkham/Silver Peak double is a fun one for TNAB. Sorry the weather didn't cooperate for you.

Looks fun, despite the flat tires. Please don't divulge whose underwear those are. I'd rather not have that image in my brain.
I like the entry on the summit register: "Thursday hiking and pickleball group."

Is this a game of find the one that doesn't fit and didn't happen? For our sake I hope it's item 4; for yours I hope it was item 5.
Good work hitting the summit sans rain!
