We were there today too! A couple with a little Italian Greyhound - did we meet you? Hm, I'm thinking you might have asked us how far it was to Gem and what time it was? Here's the only photo I've uploaded so far but at least you can see what one third of our party looked like:
JK and Gem
I wasn't prepared for how beautiful it would be since all I've heard about Snow & Gem is that they're crowded, but sadly the sunlight (not that I'm complaining about the sunlight...) messed up my photos as well.

Yes, that was me, I didn't have a watch or a map
Nice to meet you
Hey, where did you take that picture? I walked around to the left of the lake a bit but didn't get too far.

We had lunch under a tree about halfway around the lake - then headed up to the ridge behind us for a look at Glacier Peak...

Gem is another 2 miles and about 800 feet above Snow Lake past that jct. All the way to Wildcat is a haul for one day, but great for solitude since I don't think there is any other way to get to it via a trail.

This TR is cute just like you, silly.
And to think you met Ingunn and didn't know it!
Glad everyone else is still getting out while I am sitting on my butt getting fat.

I'll just add my photos here instead of starting a new thread..
Parts of the trail were muddy and icy, especially between the pass and Snow Lake - other than that conditions were perfect (well, not for photography ).
Bobby was not amused by the new snow Foundation of an old cabin? First hike post-flu, we're happy Snow Lake Shoreline My boys in fall colors
Gem Lake was so pretty. I think we'll start taking out-of-towners here; you get great views for not a lot of effort. Go up to the ridge behind the lake for Glacier Peak views
Gem Lake Gingerbread Man vs Puma Glacier Peak is up in the corner there
