Drove all the way to the Lake Eleanor TH on FR 73 and was on the trail by 10am in a balmy 29F. Though the mountain had been clear as I drove through Enumclaw there was already some orographic cloud by the time I got to the park.
Rainier
I was intrigued to be able to see another piece of parkland in the distance
More Park with Rainier behind
with Steamboat Prow behind.
Walking through the golden park, I was reminded of Auden's poem:
"Meanwhile, in another place altogether
A vast heard of reindeer moves across
Miles and miles of golden moss
Silently and very fast."
More miles and miles of golden moss
Though there was no snow - the ground was frozen solid
Nice TR. I've known about that route to Grand for years and it been on my list; but I keep fogetting about it. Great trail for conditions like we're having. I hope to get up there soon.
