For what it's worth, at that price I'll bet my momma's best dress it's static line, not "climbing" line but "hauling" line. If you fall climbing on a static line, it can kill you....but given that we're a bunch of hikers here, it's probably not an issue. Anyhoo, don't climb on it unless you can verify that it's a dynamic line. In other words, it's got around 7% stretch, as opposed to a static, which has around 0% stretch.

Back when Larry Penberthy was still running MSR he sold static marine rope for climbing, you had to boil it for an hour to shrink it and make it stretch under load. We did this in a laundry room at McMahon Hall, and it worked well. You could dye it at the same time. Too much effort now though.
