Great idea... but should be men given some allowance for being men? I mean, a 5 feet 5 inches woman is probably perceived taller than a 5 feet 5 inches man. Agree?

Amazing as it may seem, a 5'5" woman is exactly as tall as a 5'5" man

Mathematically - and out of context - this is correct. If you add context, however, things change. For example, a 200 lb man in the USA is probably perceived as OK, while in Ethiopia he would probably be perceived as quite overweight, because, I am pretty sure, the average weight of Ethiopians is quite smaller than that of North Americans. Likewise, I am pretty sure than the average height of women in the world is smaller than the average height of men. Hence, 5'5" for a man is not the same as 5'5" for a woman.

For broader worldwide appeal you should make the cutoff 1.651 meters.

Sheesh, people. There is only one requirement for being in this club. ONE! Anyone is free to join. Some can join immediately. Others need... er... modification. We will not be making exceptions.
iron - it's the only way to keep out the riff-raff.
wamtngal - that's better than the older versions of MS Word, which had the gall to suggest "Yankee" for Yana and "Redneck" for my last name.

At 5'3", I'm in like flint.
Unless, of course, there is a height/weight proportionality requirement. In which case, I'll start a super exclusive Short & Fatty Hiking Club.

I can't join since I'm 5'6'' with my ponytail but this caught my eye ~
NPR Article: The Secret Advantage of Being Short
Robert Krulwich explores the possibility that short people have a distinct advantage over tall people - that they can actually sense things faster. If true, this might lead to "the bizarre but testable suggestion that tall people may live further in the past than short people."

Great, so when's our first hike? I like trails that have lots of fallen trees across them.

Here is a photo taken by wamtngal from the first outing of the 5'5" and under club. As you can see, one of our members had to be modified to meet the requirement.
