Conifer Hike/Walk in the Hwy 2 Corridor this Saturday I am in a class at the UW Botany 317, and this week are studing 17 specied of conifers from 3 families. My objective this Saturday after talking to my professor is to hit 4 stops in the Hwy 2 coridor to find and identify conifers in the wild. This will be a drive to, walk/hike, then drive to next site trip. The idea is to get a good understanding of the conifers from west to east (firs, ceder, hemlocks, larch and pines), and collect samples so with the later hiking season knowing what tree is what and at what environment it grows at. Also the second reason is to still get into the mountain while my toe heals... Heading to these stops. -- Barkely Lake -- Desception Falls -- Nason Creek -- Leavenworth (Ingalls Creek/or downtown to find larches! Depending on time) I plan to head out of Eastgate Park & Ride by 7:30am. I will bring field guides, and my class notes on Conifers, plus some other references from the Biology Dept. aldair@u.washington.edu (e-mail by friday night) -- Ridgewalker

What happened to your toe? Just wondering - I'm suffering with a toe issue right now too and you know how misery loves company.

Last I heard Barclay Lake Road was washed out. You will have to be pretty lucky to make that one. Might want to check the Forest Service Trail information on the web.
