I like to have a nice salad. Here's one of my favorites: cooked couscous shredded chicken pitted and chopped salt-cured olives chopped scallions, tomatoes, parsley, preserved lemon Toss all that goodness in a lemon vinaigrette. This recipe is easily modified to be a backpacking recipe. You should make it, this dish is crackadelic. up.gif

A short hike probably just a few goo pouches and maybe a balance bar or two as a backup. On a normal length hike, the goo pouches for on the go (usually all I eat while actually moving). I usually pack a sack lunch or at least a snack. Ham/turkey sandwich, some chips and something sweet (like a little debbies honey bun) as well as a bottle of gatorade to wash it all down. The goo is just so easy to open and down quickly while moving and provides quick energy on the move.
