We should all get our torches and pitchforks and storm the high fructose corn syrup factory, and render it inoperable. Then proceed to do something about stopping the government subsidies for wealthy agribusinesses. They are putting that HFCS in everything now. down.gif

The irony is now cane sugar is actually all the craze for food companies - and is used as a 'selling point' (and a way to justify a higher price) lol.gif

Nothing ironic about it. I'll take refined white sugar any day--at least we have a sense of how bad it is for us.

I must be missing something. If anything the article is saying HFCS isn't as bad as people think. Personally, I prefer my Coke with splenda.

I avoid HFCS at all costs. Mexican Coke available at Costco and Sams and some other places is made with cane sugar and is WAY better than our Coke.

I would check the label on that Mexican Coke to make sure it's still made with real sugar. From the article linked above:
Quote:
In a reversal, manufacturers are replacing the sugar in Mexican soda and other beverages with the less-expensive high-fructose corn syrup.

Saying that it's "no worse than sugar" is a damning indictment in any case, as the stuff was originally touted as being superior, thus the "high fructose" part of the name, a ploy to hoodwink people into thinking it was more like fruit sugar than cane sugar. It is not, the ratio of glucose the fructose is very similar in both products. It was also a dishonest way to get sugar off the ingredients list of many products high in sugar. The article states that HFCS is much cheaper than sugar, but then points out it is highly subsidized. So it isn't cheaper, we just pay the extra money in our income taxes instead of at the grocery store. I avoided this thread at first because I mis-read the title as "Excellent price on...." embarassedlaugh.gif
