I'm heading to the Pasayten and starting a weeklong loop on 9/11/12, and hoping to hitch a ride from Billy Goat, or Lake Creek trailheads to the Iron Gate trailhead. The opposite direction works too, or a day on either side. Probably a long shot, but anyone going my way? I can provide an modest remuneration if it helps.

The drive form Iron Gate to either Lake Creek/BillyGoat/Andrews/30 Mile is a long ways and a long time... Have you considered going up 30 mile and maybe coming out Billy Goat or something like that so the drive is in the same drainage? Usually can hitch a ride then as there is usually a decent amount of traffic... Otherwise, You might need a partner and 2 cars... and plan for the time for driving back to the trailhead to pick up the other car...

Happy Trails... pasayten

Pasayten: Thanks for the input, but I have considered all those options. I'm trying to avoid 1.5 to 2 extra days of hiking in areas I'm not interested in (Chewuch River to Horsehoe Basin) to complete a loop trip. Tree Anna: Thanks, also investigated the two shuttle services. I got quotes of $220 and $400+! Like I said in my original post, the request is a long shot, but if someone happened to be dropping a car at either end, or wanted to do the same kind of loop and had a car, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I have also wondered about the seemingly short cross country route from the 30 mile end of the road up to the Windy Creek drainage and to the gated road there that then ties in with Long Swamp main road and other trails... smile.gif
