Multiple crossing opportunities for those seeking out the rarely visited Muscott Basin or Wildcat Lake from the Dosewallips Ranger Station/Camp Muscott. Couple of shots from 4/21.

Find the trail on the south bank?
Raise you one (also a "parklike" undisclosed location )

This seems to be a good description of the current condition of Elk Lick Hot Spring: seeps buried under a riverside slump. Several logs were available for crossing from Diamond Meadows, as of a couple years ago.
"Diamond Meadows is periodically buried under snow avalanches from the brushy gully to the north, and the deep snow hinders the growth. Cross the west fork to see boggy elk wallows at the mouth of Elk Lick Creek reportedly near the site of a hot spring reported to be extant here in the 1920s. The spring may lie near the branch of the fault zone bearing the better known Olympic Hot Springs. To judge from its popularity with elk seeking salts, Elk Lick Spring is probably still active, seeping out from beneath slumped river bank material and forest debris". - Roland Tabor USGS, Geology of Olympic NP, p. 58 (1987)

I read this post last year and it peaked my interest too:
A bridge log now spans the Dosewallips at the east end of the campground at the ranger station. This provides access to the remnant trail up into the Basin and Wildcat Lake areas.

Elk Lick hot springs...not hot..just a seep across the river
kinda like the Soda Springs, however much smaller.
Wildcat Lake...find old trail across from Muscott Flats
(campground). As shown on Custom Correct map.
(Gray Wolf-Dosewallips) best to continue up creek
and go around the ridge, come in from the upper end.
my observations.....Bruce

That lake looks so neat. I wish I knew someone who hikes as slow as I do and yet still wants to go on adventures to places like Wildcat lake.

Bump.
Going to give this one more (3rd) attempt soon. Never went around and dropped in from above. Both other times I bounced around straight up on old trails and got cliffed-out by nearly vertical moss-covered slabs. I was alone and it was too hot to continue.
Any updated info, feel free to PM me - I'd love to hear about it.
