Better conditions on this hike compared to the cats and dogs at Snoqualmie on friday to Lake Lillian. There was only a mist. The hike to Sheep Lake would be nice for young ones and wives that don't hike. Still lots of wild flowers too. Half mile in I ran into a guy with his four kids that were soaked and looked disappointed. I yielded right of way and asked if they made it to the lake as they passed by. Dad said no cause one of the kids couldn't make it. Turns out they were only half mile short of the lake. Bummer. I guess I should have kept that info to myself. Ass! Anyway, nice flowers, lots of wildlife, cool meadows, sweet little lake, cloudy gap.

Yes, the view from sourdough gap would be nice if the kids can make it. The grade is really not bad to the gap. The gap shown in my first pic is not a straight up hike. Lots of nice gradual switchbacks to the top.
Have fun!!!

Keep going after you hit Sourdough Gap, the trail (the PCT) goes downhill a bit-then there is an unmarked spur trail uphill to another gap. This Gap overlooks the basin Upper Crystal Lake sits in. Awesoem view of Rainier. You can drop down and take a trail into the park, to the lake
Ford liked this hike!
I think kids love S. Gap because they feel like they have acomplished something-they can see way far North on the PCT, and look back at Chinook Pass and see the cars!
Ford is 7 now
