Here's an example of the kind of risks they take to help others... the picture was taken in the Enchantments on July 23, 2005...

Yes many thanks to all involved.

Don't mean to trivalize. But that's nothing. Next time you are in the Enchantments, look up at Mount Temple. Then look about 100 yards to the west directly on the ridgeline. Those dudes plucked me off that ragged ridge in between the spires. Sorry, I have no pictures becuase the extraction was during the middle of the night.

Art is an adventure.

Stefan...Was Search and Rescue involved with your evacuation? I thought it was an Army detachment which is why they could do it in the middle of the night. I visited the extraction site and there wasn't much room between the rotors and the summit block. So kudos to the Army as well for their help in keeping us alive in the mountains.

In situations that are not not considered immediatley life threatening the military likes to wait till night to do helo extractions because they get a chance to train with their night vision

Its true that SAR people provide all their own personal gear, I am with Snohomish County SAR, and we use all of our own gear with the exception of the high angle rescue equipment, like ropes, carabiners, pulleys and webbing.

The high-angle rescue equipment (rope, webbing, pulleys, etc.) is purchased using private donations. SAR missions cost the taxpayer practically $0.00.
