Anybody have any info on the mosquitos in the North Cascades? Planning on the PCT from Steven's to Rainy this week and would like to know if the skeeters are out in force. Thanks.

They're always out in force, learn the ZEN approach. WAs up on W. Cady Ridge last week, nary a one.

They were biting @ Baker Lake on Friday. Not too heavy though.

Not swarming, but they are healthy. The flies are doing a bit better than the skeeters up there. If your used to bugs, I'd say it's pretty tolerable.

Black flies abominable on Heliotrope Ridge Trail on the north side of Baker over the weekend. Mosquito's were rare and deer flies very rare.

Something lost behind the ranges. Lost and waiting for you....... Go and find it. Go!

There were hardly any mosquitoes but plenty of blackflies and deer flies on Baker's east side last week.

It seems to depend on conditions at the moment - on Sat there were no bug problems at Bearhead Mtn (near Mt. Rainier) probably because there was a stiff breeze all day. On Sun the black flies on the way up to Gothic Basin were really bad but in the basin, where there was a gentle but constant breeze, they were not a problem. I'm hoping to take a hike later today and was also trying to figure out where to go to minimize the bug menace.
