What outdoor retailer in the Seattle area do you think has the most knowledgable staff? I need a new multi day pack and I have some fitting issues (I have pokey hipbones and have chafing issues with the hipbelt) that require some serious help by someone knowledgable. REI/Outdoor and More staff haven't been much help.

McHale backpacks. How many places can you go to talk to and have your pack fit by the designer, maker and owner? I wouldn't trade mine for any other.

Pro Mountain Sports has a small, but well selected, selection. You should give Jim all of your money so he can stay in business.

Going lighter will help the chafing considerably (in my experience).

I would love a McHale's pack, but from what I've seen, they are wayyyy out of my price range. Maybe I should start saving for this. I've never been to Pro Mountain-I will check them out. My pack (for a weekend) weighs all of 22 pounds-going much lighter would be a little too minimalist for me. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I used to work with James when we were both at Marmot! I agree, give JIM ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL your money! TB P.S., at least go in there and partake of his VAST experience!

No, really, the guy who owns the shop is called Jim, and all of your backpacking dollars should go to him, or else we will all be doomed to hikeytown!

I'm sorry, it was an accident. The guy who owns that shop doesn't have a lot of employees, and we've been in touch about this thing and that thing, and yes I have blasted people for the same thing. I'll be more careful in the future. Having said that, Pro Mountain Sports is a good shop, and the guy who runs it is really knowledgeable.

I'll second (third? fourth?) Pro Mountain Sports. www.promountainsports.com I used to like to shop at Wilderness Sports in Bellevue, but alas it is no more. I mostly buy gear online now--except boots . . .
