Is Otter Falls safe to swim around? If not, could anyone suggest their favorite waterfalls to swim underneath/near?

I don't see why it wouldn't be. Lakes usually are pretty safe...though it's hard to call Lispy Lake a lake. dizzy.gif

well, large flows of water can be dangerous.. 8lbs per gallon. as long as the pool where the water enters is somewhat shallow, it should be somewhat safe.. the real danger is if the pool is deep, the undertow can pull you under and you won't float in heavily-aerated water.. fwiw, the only waterfalls i've played in were in hawaii on the big island near hilo. cascade and olympic waterfalls would be rather chilly i would think...

You can always play around in Oneonta. Although it doesn't take long to get there, it's always fun after a long hot day hike in the Gorge.

BPJ and I were just up there (Lipsy Lake/Otter Tail Slide). There's not much water coming down. You can swim and slide on a closed cell pad (T-Rests work, too, but it's hard on them). FYI there is a trail to a nice campsite by the river accross the road a little way upstream from the Lipsey Trail. Look for a split rock on your right.
