I am planning on camping a few days with my girls (4.5 and 9 years old) in the Methow Valley area this summer and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for day hikes around Winthrop , Twisp , Mazama....ect Also looking for recomendationd for a good place to camp, preferably near one of the rivers or lakes as I am an avid flyfisherman.

hiking with kids in Methow Valley
For relatively easy hikes with kids, you might try Cutthroat Lake or Lake Ann in the Washington Pass area (rewards for fishing dad, too). If they are in good shape/ enthusiastic, on the Lake Ann trail you can continue on the main trail at the lake cuttoff and continue up towards Maple Pass, which is an outstanding place. Even a half mile or so past the cutoff you start getting some spectacular views down onto the lake and of surrounding mountains. Rainy Lake at Rainy Pass is Ok, but less scenery and you are on a paved trail the whole 1.3 or so miles. All these hikes are in a book titled, Best Hikes for Kids in Washington, Vol.1. if memory serves me right.

Get some Green Trails Maps. Cutthroat Pass is good. Go to the overlook at Washington Pass proper Hike to Goat Mtn Hiking around Harts Pass is good Robinson Creek = bad Lost River = don't even try Methow River Trail = boring Camping = Harts Pass or Early Winters Campground

Art is an adventure.

Harts Pass is a must see, however you won't be able to get to for quite a while. See below. http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/oka/wnproads.html
