Did the Boulder River trail on Thursday and, recalling a previous thread, decided to post an update about the large cedar across the trail. A trail crew was working in the area and making good headway on removing this obstruction. They have the trail in real good shape up to the cedar but still have a fair amount of work left from the cedar (about 3 miles in) to the river. It is fairly easy to get around the remaining trees but after hiking both "sections" it makes me really appreciate the excellent job the trail crews do.

While they are there, perhaps they can be persuaded to work on extending the trail to a more apt culmination, including an unobstructed three fingers' view? I can only hope. suuure.gif

At one time the trail went to the Three Fingers lookout (via Tupso Pass). The current end of the trail was Boulder Camp.

Yessir, I was wrong; looks as if they cut at least the top half. Dunno if they continnied; if not, then that platform the bottom half makes, makes a good step. I shoulda kept my mouth shut 'cause I've seen 'em perform miracles befo'. That for'ard man in the photo's a cracker-jack, & the one in the background in the yellow hat's the crackerest jack of 'em all. I missed out on that trip; I work at an accounting firm & can't get away this time of year. But that's ok; there's more devastation on other trails out there. Boulder gets logged about twice a year; Elliot Creek got hit 3 times a couple years ago.

It may be because it is a wilderness area but the crew did things the old fashion way: hand saws, pulaskis, and wedges. Two or three of them spent the day on the cedar while the others tackled the smaller stuff. Don't know how much further they got through the log since the cedar picture was taken about 2:00 as we were hiking out.

You really have to appreciate trail crew workers, esspecially when there cutting 5ft cedars out with cross cut saws.
