Hey, I know we've talked about this before, but I need to find a list, or lists, of the trails that the NF recently lifted the parking pass requirement on.
TIA

Well, yes, I followed the link above, but it only leads to a list of FEE sites. I don't see anyplace that says where the non-fee sites are. I think they're keeping that a secret from us hiker-bums. (Paranoia strikes deep.)

Soop, thanks.
The FS does not have the free sites listed on their site, just the fee ones.
I happen to have a complete list of fee versus free for WA, you guys want me to try and get it in a form that I can publish it online? I'm on deadline for the mag right now, but might have more time next week.
What I need from you all is any info on free hikes in the ONP on the beach. Their Media Relations Specialist has not called me back.
I thought all the beach stuff was free, but my friend Mark went to Toleak Point about three weeks ago, and he tells me there is a pay box for permits there.
Anyone been to the ocean in the last couple of months and NOT had to pay a fee?
TIA for he'p!!

(The following is a rhetorical question.) Does simple deductive reasoning not apply when dealing with the USFS?
If a site is not listed as a fee site, would it not follow that it must be a free site? Get me a lawyer!
A fuxk, why do I not give one?

All the beaches near Klaloch are free, as is Rialto. Just figure pay on the Northern section, free on the Southern section.
There is a pay booth at Ozette and of course you get gouged 2 ways at ShiShi.....
Btw, the PCT parking lot at Chinook Pass is now a Fee area if you stay longer than 15 minutes.

Yeah, you're right, what that means is that you can't browse the free places looking for a place to go.
Damian, thank you for the information regaqrding the ONP beaches. I do believe that the ONP now has zero free places.
Others here: I have the information regarding 2004 FEE areas in the NFs. What I don't have is complete information about the NPs.

Marylou, read my post (even though you may not see it since you tend to ignore my posts)
There are still plenty of free areas in the ONP for getting to and enjoying. You still have to pay for backcountry permits, but it's free to drive up to Deer Park, and in winter you can go to Staircase, Elwha, etc with no fee for coming in. Btw, if you have a NP pass, you do not have to pay at Ozette (or if you are backpacking).

If you have to pay or have a pass, it's not free.
Thanks to all who helped. I went through the lists and books with my good friend Jenjen and we picked out ten-ish places that will work.

Yes, please! I think we'd all like to see such a list!
