One of the beauties of this area is that you can fish any number of lakes in a day-if fish aren't biting in one lake, you can hop to another pretty quickly. I started at Shellrock Lake, lost one real big rainbow, (I've noticed a certain theme to my fishing tales) went on up to Long John, up to Pillar, then to Pipe and back down to Dumbell-ended up catching some nice cutthroat in those lakes including a 16 incher in Dumbell. I passed three other lakes w/o fishing them-about an 18 and a half mile walk on trail so I was a little pooped at the end of the day. Saw one big bull on the way into Shellrock. The mosquitoes are BRUTAL-still a little snow on the PCT near Pipe Lake.
