Or anytime you want a smoothie, really.
This is an easy way to start off with a good load of veggies and fruit - in a tasty vehicle. I don't actually measure anything.
- Good sized dollop of non-fat yogurt (soft tofu for non-dairy folks) -- about a 6oz container size
- 3 handfulls of baby spinach
- spoonful of local honey (if you like things sweet, use more honey)
- spoonful of ground flax seeds
- 2 spoonfulls of good quality fish oil (I like Barleans, there are other good brands)
- orange juice, enough to get the mixture liquid and moving
- mixed frozen fruit, whatever amount you want, and as much as you can stuff in before the smoothie gets too thick for the blender to work
The color of the smoothie ends up kind of funky, but the flavor is orange + whatever fruit you used. (this morning's fruit is mixed berries and mangoes) I end up with about 20 oz of smoothie, give or take.
Other veggies I've tried successfully are kale, chard, and cauliflower. Broccoli was awful, as was cabbage. Baby spinach is just really convenient.
