If I do not have to work tomorrow (Thursday), I would like to see if anyone has suggestions for a summit hike off/near Highway 2 because I would be in that general area. The weather looks poor (rainy) and the avalanche danger might be poor, too. However, according to Peakbagger.com my next successful summit will be my 100th of the year, a first for me. I don't want to waste that on a lame city highpoint (although I will if needed on NYE Day). I considered Blue Mountain on the SW side of Spada Lake, but I do not know how close I can even drive up there, and with just a car. Does anyone know about that? Or does anyone have any other suggestions off Highway 2 that would not have avalanche concerns?

How about Windy Mtn.?

I'm not always sure I like being older but being less stupid has advantages. http://www.flickr.com/photos/32121172@N00/sets/

Mount Stickney.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

You mean the mountain responsible for the biggest avalanche disaster in our nation's history? (Not that I would approach it from that side, anyway.) That sounds a little "dicey". lol.gif

What route are you guys talking about for Stickney?

It was sarcasm, in reference to Flow's latest adventure.

You would possibly have a "first ascent" should you bag the peak via that route.

Heck Yea! Or then of course you could die trying, but then as 100 of the year it would all be good, right!?!? eek.gif (That is sarcasm if you were not sure!) As for peaks, sorry no help there, just getting back into longer hikes, peaks are still year or two down the road. Wolfman

I recommend this book. It is very good. ------------ BTW- I reached my 100th summit today. Actually, it is very possible, with all of the hills and bumps I have reached this year, that I may have already passed that threshold... but I am just going off of the peakbagger.com data. With limited time for a trip due to family commitments today, I had to choose between straightforward and popular, or lame and obscure. Anyone who knows me well can probably guess which of those two options I would make for a solo trip. hmmm.gif

OK... Same scenario as before. It looks like I will need to be near Highway 2 (between Monroe and Stevens Pass) early this upcoming week. I recently realized that I have never summited a 5000'+ peak in January, so that is my preference. Are there any such peaks off Highway 2 that only require 6-8 hours of roundtrip hiking/snowshoeing? I only have a car, which in some respects is better for elevation gain. Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks! I had totally forgotten about Arrowhead Mountain until this afternoon. Odd, since most of my peakbagging friends have already been there. If my little car can make it over Stevens Pass, that is my new preferred choice. We'll see, and others are welcome to join!
