Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

I'm a clam hunter. Admittedly so. I have credentials up the ying-yang from Vancouver Island to Big Sur. I capture the little freakers and put them in boiling water just so my girlfriend can hear them squeal. Yikes! (But it turns on my girlfriend).
I feel a little guilty about my clam hunting and my girlfriends problem. But they both taste very good to me.

A fun video.
But a true razor clam purist uses a shovel and digs in the surf.

It's been a long time since I've gone clam digging. This weekend would be great.

That video almost made it look too easy. The clams don't always show that well.

Going clamming this weekend.
Is there any reason to buy the fancy thin clam shovel instead of the regular ol' shovel I have in my garage?

The narrow shovel is designed to be easier to use. Wet sand is really heavy. Clam shovel is less likely to break. Not uncommon to see sad campers walking around with broken, full-sized shovels. One must be cautious not to snap off at the handle. Only with patience and perseverance can one achieve the legendary levels of happiness associated with clams at high tide.

it really depends on the conditions.. sometimes a shovel works the best, sometimes a gun works the best. it's a lot like fishing really.......
personally, i've had the best results using a 7" diameter, custom-made clam gun 4 feet long. most of the available clam guns are 4-6" diameter and i always break the shells with those small tubes..... but guns don't work well if the sand is too firm. in those cases, a real clam shovel is the way to go.

MW is right we called the narrow shovels "clam guns" long before the suction thingies were popular. Shovels are a lot less likely to chop the clams if you know how to use them.
