"Good people" or "bad people"? Is there a list somewhere?

Wow leave a site for a few days and it's amazing what happens. Glad I just said that I think cigarette smoke stinks and I hate smelling it outside in the woods or in the neighborhood. Maybe cigarette smokers should take up chewing instead. wink.gif

That's it.... On my next hike in the Cascades I'm gonna be smoking a pipe and a cigar. And I'm gonna be bringing my dog, off leash.

My unleashed hounds don't smoke but they sure can be flatulent! I'll feed the little one some greasy fud if we ever hike on a busy trail. naughty.gif

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

We're NOT pro-smoking or anti-environment, we're anti-intolerant! Your continued and regularly posted intolerance is dragging down this whole forum. Multiple long-time posters have pointed it out and every thread you participate in turns into an argument of navel-pondering idealism. Most of us prefer to deal with reality as it is.

Pretty much everybody has some kind of annoying habit or addiction. I can't kick my food addiction! I guess I should not go outside as fat people are offensive to some. What I'm getting at is people start smoking at the stupid age, then can't quit. Most every smoker I know has tried, and tried. Some are able to do so, some are not. Then they put on weight and that is pointed out as a nasty thing also by the "perfect" people. So even though I don't like the smoke, I do not hassle them. Not one has intentionally blown smoke in my face either. We got a kick out of a Grand Canyon dayhike. On the way back up, French people would go zooming by us. Then they'd stop for a smoke and we'd go by them. Instead of being "offended" we laughed about it. Can't you try to do that instead of having it ruin your life?

A woman once asked me if I smoked after sex? I told her I didn't know as I never looked.

This is the funniest joke of all. The rampant intolerance on this site only draws a line at the Sacred Cow of "Smokers". Nothing else seems to be off limits to intolerance, just smoking.

I quit smoking 25 or so years ago when my daughter was born. It was the most difficult thing to do. I had nightmares about restarting for years afterwards. So glad I quit though. Anyway, regards the question, I wouldn't not hike with a smoker if they were already a friend and were considerate. I think the whiff of smoke is awful and so I avoid people who smoke in general but especially for hiking or climbing partners.

Tolerating, and advocating the tolerance of smoking and other practices that are detrimental to our health and the environment is essentially the same as advocating the practice itself. Speaking out against smoking and showing disgust in the presence of smokers puts social pressure on them to give it up and discourages others to quite.

nopity.gif It takes two people to argue, and no one is under any obligation to partake in a thread. The only thing dragging this or any other forum down is the popularity of social media such as twitter. I don't see how advocating banning things like smoking, off road vehicles, bicycles on trails etc. is so horribly controversial; the people who partake in such activities are perfectly welcome so long as they leave their disgusting and/or destructive hobbies at home.

A few thoughts getting along with our fellow man and enjoying life.... If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. If you are a picky eater, don't travel to another country (unless it's Serbia). If you can't stand a whiff of smoke from time to time, stay in your room ( and don't light a camp fire).
